“One Summer,” the album’s only true pop song, presents a melancholy, dreamlike atmosphere: the end of the season and shortening days, fantasies of long-gone feelings and fears of moments slipping away. But it’s a song of pining, too – wanting to be open to finding love. In a strange but appealing twist, “One Summer” became something of a premonition for Corrina’s future, as she met the person who would become her next partner not too long after writing and recording this song; his presence became a fluttery little backbone to her isolation in the process of finalizing the album. “One Summer” soars and swoons, cultivating an atmosphere of indelible warmth that builds into and toward a feeling far bigger than the titular summer.
