As a song expressly about confronting sadness and honoring grief, “Count the Teardrops” most overtly touches on the theme of loss. In order to be able to move through and past grief, one must look into its eyes and name it, just as the song says of the titular teardrops: “I’ll count the teardrops, hold out your hands. Let’s give them a name.” Corrina’s bright voice falls like rain on a dry day, while soft, spare strumming sets the mood for catharsis, constructing a sound both plaintive and serene.
